Cultural Music Summer Internship

Conjunto Heritage Taller, with support from GenerationNEXT of The Tobin Center and Bexar County, is accepting applications for a Cultural Music Summer Internship. This unique opportunity will allow a student to pioneer the standardization of Conjunto music education through curriculum development, archiving of culturally significant compositions, conservation and transcribing of aural taught folk-music. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) role, beginning on June 7th and ending on August 13th, 2021.

  • Must currently be enrolled in an Undergraduate program
  • Must be a resident of Bexar County
  • Must be able to commit 40-hours per week during the internship timeline (June 7 – August 13, 2021)


  • Research various media types of Tex-Mex Folk music
  • Organize and catalog music database
  • Transcribe various forms of media into written music notation
  • Digitize original recordings of Accordion folk music, categorized by region and genre.
  • Attend weekly strategy meetings
  • Report weekly milestones and accomplishments
  • Assist and report to Principle CHT Music Theory Instructor
  • Audit various CHT courses/classes/lessons

Minimum Skills

  • Must have passed Undergraduate Level Music Theory 2, or equivalent knowledge
  • 1 year experience with Roman Numeral Analysis of written notation and audio recordings
  • Must be able to read and write music notation at a proficient level
  • General Leadership skills (within a Music setting is preferred)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with working as a part of a team remotely
  • 1-2 years experience with music notation software
  • 1 year experience with analyzing and transcribing audio recordings
  • Experience with Spreadsheets (Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel)

Preferred Skills

  • Passed undergraduate level Music Theory 4, or equivalent knowledge
  • Experience working in a Non-Profit organization
  • Familiarity with Conjunto, Regional Mexican, Norteno, Tejano music
  • Experience working in a private or public school (any level) as a tutor, music tech, and/or private lesson teacher
  • Experience implementing an assigned educational curriculum in any subject (Music is preferred)
  • Experience teaching in a virtual setting via Google Classroom and Zoom.
  • Experience with a Finale music notation software
